Does a self-warming blanket really get warm, or is it just a regular blanket with a fancy name?
Does a self-warming blanket really get warm, or is it just a regular blanket with a fancy name?
It isn’t a heating pad, and that is the point. With no electricity, it can’t get hot by itself. Instead, a reflective inner layer bounces your pet’s own body heat back toward them instead of letting it drain into a cold floor or drafty air. That means the warmth builds gradually as they settle in, usually within a few minutes of lying down. You’ll notice it most on cool tile, in garages, crates and chilly bedrooms. In a warm room it will simply feel like a very comfortable blanket. When the temperature drops, that is when you see pets curl up and stay put.
The top is soft fleece. How can it be waterproof? Won’t pee just soak straight through?
The top is soft fleece. How can it be waterproof? Won’t pee just soak straight through?
This is where a lot of cheap pet blankets let people down, so here is exactly how ours works. The Sherpa and flannel fleece are soft fabrics, so they will absorb a little moisture where an accident happens. That is what keeps your pet from sitting in a puddle. The real protection is a dedicated waterproof membrane sandwiched in the middle, which stops liquid from reaching what is underneath and works from both directions. Because it sits between two soft layers, you feel blanket, not plastic. For best results, blot the spot and put it in the wash after an accident rather than letting it sit for days.
Could it make my pet too hot, especially my fluffy breed?
Could it make my pet too hot, especially my fluffy breed?
Self-warming only reflects heat your pet is already producing. There is no heating element, no thermostat and no surface that keeps getting hotter. If your pet feels warm enough, they simply stand up or flip to the other side, and the warmth fades with them. Thick-coated breeds like huskies and malamutes often prefer the smooth flannel side, while short-coated, small and senior pets tend to gravitate to the plush Sherpa side. You can also fold it in half for a lighter layer.
Won’t a thick, waterproof blanket take forever to dry after washing?
Won’t a thick, waterproof blanket take forever to dry after washing?
Thick Sherpa plus a waterproof layer does take longer to dry than a thin throw, and it is better to hear that up front. Wash cold, tumble dry on low, and give it a good shake halfway through to fluff the Sherpa and speed things up. The easiest fix, and the one most pet parents land on, is a second blanket. While one dries, the other is already on the couch or in the crate, and your pet’s routine never gets interrupted. That is why our 2 and 3 packs are the most popular.
Is it safe if my dog chews or my cat kneads and claws at it?
Is it safe if my dog chews or my cat kneads and claws at it?
The biggest safety worry with warming pads is chewing through a cord or heating element. Here there is nothing electrical to chew, no wires, no plug, no battery. The edges are tightly stitched for everyday wear. To be honest, it is a blanket, not a toy, and no blanket is chew-proof against a determined shredder. We suggest supervising puppies and heavy chewers at first, and keeping nails trimmed to protect the surface fabric from snags. Cats who knead usually adore the Sherpa side.
I have a big couch. Will it actually cover it, or will it be too small?

We made six sizes so you don’t have to compromise: XS (50 x 70 cm), S (71 x 100 cm), M (100 x 145 cm), L (145 x 165 cm), XL (145 x 216 cm) and XXL (216 x 216 cm). Measure the spot you want to protect, then add a few extra inches to tuck into the sides or fold under. As a quick guide, M covers a single seat cushion or armchair, L or XL fits a loveseat or full sofa, and XXL covers a sectional or a king-size bed. If you are between sizes, go up.
Will it stop my sofa or bed from smelling like pet accidents?
Will it stop my sofa or bed from smelling like pet accidents?
Odors set in when liquid reaches cushions and mattress foam. The waterproof membrane keeps liquid from getting to your furniture in the first place, so there is nothing to soak in and linger. The blanket takes the hit, and the blanket goes in the wash. Rinse or wash cold soon after an accident, use a mild detergent, and tumble dry low or line dry. Your couch stays fresh, and the only thing that needs laundering is the blanket.
My pet is a senior. Is this a good option for older, achy or leaky pets?
My pet is a senior. Is this a good option for older, achy or leaky pets?
Older pets feel the cold more, and many start having the odd accident, so warmth and waterproof protection in one blanket suits this stage of life well. It gives them a soft, cozy spot that holds their own body heat, and it protects the bed or sofa they love to be on. It is a comfort product, not a medical treatment. If your pet seems stiff or in pain, please speak with your vet, and for very frail pets, layer the blanket over a supportive orthopedic bed.
What if my dog or cat ignores it and won’t use it?
What if my dog or cat ignores it and won’t use it?
Most pets take to it quickly because they instinctively seek out warm, soft spots. To speed things up, put it where they already nap, rub it with a worn t-shirt or their old bed so it smells familiar, and leave a treat on top. Let them choose their favorite side, since Sherpa and fleece feel quite different. Some cats prefer it bunched up into a little nest. Give it a few days and keep it in the same place.
Why pay more than a normal fleece throw, and do I really need more than one?
Why pay more than a normal fleece throw, and do I really need more than one?
A basic throw does one job. This blanket does three: it keeps your pet warm without electricity, protects your furniture, bed and car, and folds up to travel. Compared with replacing a stained cushion, steam-cleaning a mattress or buying new seat covers, it quickly pays for itself. Buying 2 or 3 stretches the value further: one on the couch, one in the wash, one for the car or crate. Rotating them also means each blanket gets less wear, so your set lasts longer. The cold floor was never their choice.
Watch them on a cold morning. The little circle before they lie down. The tucked paws. The way they press into the one patch of sun, or burrow close to you under the covers. Your pet is always searching for warmth, and most of the time the floor offers none. Tile, hardwood, crate trays and garage mats pull heat out of small bodies faster than we realize.
And the idea of plugging in a heated pad and walking out of the room? Many of us can’t relax about that either.
The Self-Warming Waterproof Blanket was made for exactly this moment. Inside, a heat-reflecting layer catches the natural warmth your dog or cat gives off and returns it to them, so the spot they chose gets cozier the longer they stay. No cords. No plugs. No heating element to check. Just soft Sherpa on one side, smooth flannel fleece on the other, and the quiet kind of warmth that lets them finally stretch out and sleep deeply.
Because they power it themselves, it’s there for the lazy Tuesday afternoon and the night the heating goes out. You get peace of mind. They get a warm place that feels like it was made for them.
Love them on the couch. Love your couch, too.
Somewhere along the way, many of us started saying “off the couch.” Not because we wanted to, but because of the muddy paws, the drool, the shedding, and that one accident we still think about every time we sit down. For senior pets, puppies and anxious cats, the guilt cuts both ways: you hate to say no, and you hate to scrub cushions at midnight.
A central waterproof membrane changes that. It sits between the plush Sherpa and the flannel fleece and stops liquid from passing through in either direction, so it works whichever side is facing up. Spills, drool, wet paws and accidents stay on the blanket and out of your sofa, mattress, or car seat. The surface fabrics are soft and absorb a little where it happens, so your pet isn’t left lying in a puddle, and a quick cold wash resets everything.
That means movie night with their head on your lap. A lazy Sunday with no worrying. Sharing the bed with an older dog who sometimes leaks. The closeness you wanted all along, without the cleanup you dreaded.
And the blanket does it without crinkly plastic or stiff liners. It simply feels like a blanket, because it is one.
Their favorite spot, wherever life takes you both.
Pets are creatures of comfort and routine. The smell of their blanket tells them: this is safe, this is mine, this is home. New places, vet waiting rooms, hotel rooms, long road trips, even a trip to the beach can feel unsettling to them. Carry the same cozy blanket from place to place, and you bring a piece of home along.
This blanket was made to move. It’s light enough to carry, soft on both sides, and reversible, so they choose Sherpa or flannel fleece. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, and it’s ready again. Use it in the crate, on the back seat, at the campsite, under a picnic, or on your own bed.
This is why pet parents who love theirs rarely stop at one. One blanket for the couch. One for the car or crate. One ready in the drawer while the other is in the wash. Rotating them means your pet never loses their favorite spot, you never lose your protection, and each blanket lasts longer because the wear is shared.
Add 2 or 3 to your order and save more per blanket. It is the easiest way to keep them cozy for years, not just this winter.
FAQ
What is the blanket made of, and how does it work?
It has three working parts: plush Sherpa lining on one side, soft flannel fleece on the other, and a central waterproof membrane in between. Together with the self-warming design, which reflects your pet’s own body heat back toward them, it gives you a blanket that is warm, soft and protective at the same time. There is no electricity, no battery and no heating element involved.
Does it matter which side faces up?
Not at all. The waterproof membrane blocks liquid from both directions, so you can use either side. Sherpa is plusher and tends to feel warmer, while flannel fleece is smoother and lighter. Let your pet show you their favorite, and flip it whenever you like.
Do I need to plug it in or charge it?
No. It is completely electricity-free. The warmth comes from reflecting your pet’s natural body heat, so there are no cords, batteries, switches or timers. It is ready to use out of the box, and you can put it anywhere your pet likes to rest.
Where can I use it?
Almost anywhere your pet lies down: sofa, bed, crate, car seat, floor, pet bed, carrier or armchair. It also works as a travel blanket for hotels, picnics, the beach and camping. For outdoor use, keep it somewhere sheltered like a porch, garage, shed or kennel, and always give pets proper protection from freezing or wet weather.
How do I wash it, and can I tumble dry it?
Machine wash in cold water and dry at low temperature. Thicker Sherpa takes a little longer to dry, so give it a good shake partway through. We recommend a mild detergent and skipping fabric softener and bleach to look after the waterproof layer. Having a second blanket on hand makes washing day easier.
Which size should I choose?
We offer six sizes: XS (50 x 70 cm / 20 x 28 in), S (71 x 100 cm / 28 x 39 in), M (100 x 145 cm / 39 x 57 in), L (145 x 165 cm / 57 x 65 in), XL (145 x 216 cm / 57 x 85 in), XXL (216 x 216 cm / 85 x 85 in). For a pet bed or crate, measure the floor area. For furniture, measure the seat or length you want covered, then add a few inches. If in doubt, size up.
Is it suitable for cats, kittens and puppies?
Yes. It suits cats of all ages and dogs from small to large. Smaller sizes (XS and S) work well for kittens, puppies, toy breeds and carriers. As with any blanket, supervise young puppies and kittens who like to chew, and keep claws trimmed to help protect the surface fabric.
Is it only for pets? Can I use it for myself on the sofa too?
It is designed for pets, but many owners love it because the larger sizes are big enough to share. Use it as a protective layer on the sofa or bed and snuggle up together. The waterproof membrane also helps with spills, muddy paws and drool.
How do I get rid of pet hair?
Shake it out outdoors, then use a lint roller or a rubber glove to lift loose hair from the Sherpa. Tumbling for a few minutes on low heat before washing loosens hair, which you can then clean from the dryer filter. This keeps hair out of your washing machine.
How do I make my blanket last as long as possible?
Three simple habits: wash cold, dry low, and rotate between two or three blankets. When wear is shared, each blanket lasts longer, you always have a clean one ready, and your pet’s routine never gets interrupted. Wash after accidents rather than leaving a blanket to sit for days.
what our customers say about us
-
Harold M.Verified Buyer“Cold tiles are no longer a problem”"Our chihuahua used to shake on the tile floor every morning, no matter how many bedsides we tried. I bought the XS and put it in her favorite corner. Within two days she was curling up on it by herself and staying there. It’s soft, it doesn’t need plugging in, and I love that it’s washable. Just ordered a second."
-
Christian D.Verified Buyer“Husky approved, flannel side only”"I wasn’t sure a husky would want a warming blanket, but he adores the flannel side. He’s very picky about textures and normally ignores anything new. It lies flat, doesn’t slide around, and he sleeps through the night on it. I use the Sherpa side for our older dog, so it works for both of them."
-
Nancy L.Verified Buyer“Protected my new mattress”"Our dog sleeps in our bed, and after one midnight accident I was worried about replacing the mattress. The XXL covers my entire king bed and looks like a lovely throw. The next time she had an accident the top was damp but the mattress was dry. One wash and it’s ready again. Absolutely worth it."
-
Gian P.Verified Buyer“Soaked on top, bone-dry underneath”"I tested it before trusting it. I poured a cup of water in the middle, left it for a few minutes, then lifted the blanket. The top was damp, the surface underneath was totally dry. After that I trusted it on the couch. It’s a very sensible, well-made blanket that does what it says."
-
Sarah E.Verified Buyer“Perfect for my senior boxer”"My boxer is 12 and has occasional accidents, and he loves lying on the sofa with us. I didn’t want to keep him off it, so this was the answer. He gets warm and cozy, I get peace of mind. It washes well and it doesn’t smell. The L is the right size for a medium-large dog and covers the whole seat."
-
Victoria N.Verified Buyer“The best hotel-room blanket”"We travel a lot with our terrier and hotel stays used to make him anxious. Now I lay this out the moment we arrive and he knows it’s his spot. It’s light, folds up small and keeps the hotel bedding clean. Having his own blanket makes unfamiliar places so much easier for him."
-
Nikka T.Verified Buyer“Sized up and so glad I did”"I almost ordered the L but followed the advice to size up for my three-seater sofa. The XL covers the whole couch with enough fabric to tuck in at the sides, and it stays where it should. It looks like a normal throw, and the dogs fight over the best spot on it."
-
Aries K.Verified Buyer“Bundle of 3 was the best decision”"I bought the 3-pack, and I’m glad I did. One lives on the sofa, one is in the car and one is in the wash or spare. We’ve never been caught without one. It also works out much cheaper per blanket than buying one at a time. If you have a dog, just get three."
-
Benji R.Verified Buyer“Washes up beautifully”"I’ve washed mine a lot of times on cold and dried on low, and it’s still soft and fluffy. No pilling or odd smells, and the Sherpa side still looks fresh. It dries slower than a thin throw, so I suggest having two. My small dog uses it all day."
-
Chelsea T.Verified Buyer“Cat approved, even in the garage”"We look after a stray who sleeps in our garage in a cardboard house. I put an S inside, and within a day she had claimed it. There’s no electricity involved, which suits a garage perfectly. It was cold last night, but when I checked on her she was curled up and warm. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference to her."
